Stephen Ucembe grew up in an orphanage in Kenya. His educational background is in Social Work, Child Development, and Social Policy for Development.  As a result of his childhood experiences, he has ardently advocated for safe, caring and loving families for children without adequate parental care. He continues to champion support for young people with lived experience and their inclusion in decision-making processes.

He currently works for Hope and Homes for Children as a Regional Advocacy Manager.  Stephen is the Founder of Kenya Society of Care, an organization focused on promoting the rights of children without parental care and the well-being of young people who have left alternative care in Kenya. He has also been a member of Better Care Network advisory board, and a former board member of the International Foster Care Organization (IFCO)
